In response to increasing climate vulnerability, unpredictable flash floods, and recurring landslides across the upper Himalayas, former Indian Army Para Special Forces operative Rakesh Singh Sajwan has officially announced the operational expansion of the Buddy Hikers Himalayan Safety & Rescue Foundation.
Headquartered in Dehradun, the non-profit initiative is deploying an integrated community safety model that pairs veterans' high-angle tactical skills with local village mobilization. The organization's primary objective is to train local youths, students, and mountain guides as certified first responders before government rescue agencies can reach cut-off zones during monsoon and seismic disasters.
"Every major monsoon season reminds us that Uttarakhand's terrain cannot rely solely on delayed external aid when bridges and roads collapse," stated Founder-President Rakesh Singh Sajwan, who served 17 years in the Para Special Forces. "Our priority is establishing practical readiness in every school, panchayat, and trekking hub through real-time First Aid, CPR, and rope-rescue capabilities."
